Setting up Microsoft Authenticator on a New Mobile Phone

If you have recently purchased a new mobile phone and need to set up the Microsoft Authenticator app on your new device, please follow these steps:

On your computer:
  1. Sign in to Microsoft 365 at https://myaccount.microsoft.com. You may need to approve this sign-in by either using the Microsoft Authenticator App on your old phone or by selecting ‘I can’t use the Microsoft Authenticator App right now’ and then choosing ‘Text’ to receive a One-Time Password via text message. If neither of these options is available to you, please email us at help@gregorychapman.uk to ask us to reset Authenticator.
  2. Go to “Security Info” and click “Update Info.”
  3. Click “+ Add Sign In Method.”
  4. Select “Authenticator App” and then click “Add.”
On your new phone:
  1. Download and install the Microsoft Authenticator App from the app store.
  2. Open the Microsoft Authenticator App and click the “+” in the top right-hand corner to add a new account.
  3. Select “Work or School Account.”
  4. Choose “Scan QR code.”
  5. Scan the QR code displayed on your computer screen with your mobile phone.
  6. Click “Next” (on your computer) and enter the number displayed on the screen into the Microsoft Authenticator App to confirm functionality.
  7. Microsoft Authenticator App is now set up on your new mobile phone.
